We identified inequalities regarding access to online learning for refugee students due to COVID-19. This includes disruptions to education due to the sudden shift to online learning and the lack of technology in many students' homes. Additionally, many students lack support with academics due to language barriers and work schedules. The Refugee Village has identified several areas of need from conversations with local refugee students and educators during this crisis. The following areas were identified are:
The Refugee Village is creating a program to help bridge the gap related to inequalities in education for refugee students during COVID19. This program will hopefully include access to technology, computer literacy training, college preparedness, career mentoring, social and emotional interventions due to potential trauma, and academics in the form of afterschool and tutoring. We are building online modules to plan for the possible extended closure of the school as well as in-person delivered modules.
